Abstract
El desconocimiento del patrimonio cultural y religioso conlleva una pérdida de la identidad de determinada sociedad. Lograr difundir y preservar los bienes tangibles e intangibles corresponde a otorgarle un valor a la historia. Es así, que como parte del legado desde nuestro pasado se encuentra los templos religiosos, uno de ellos y de suma importancia para los riobambeños es la Iglesia de Balbanera que constituye el primer templo católico fundado en territorio ecuatoriano, el mismo que, aunque permanece hasta ahora no ha sido tratado con la importancia que merece por los organismos encargados. Esta investigación realiza una recopilación de la información acerca de la iglesia de Balbanera, desde el punto de vista del patrimonio cultural y religioso.
